Here are some work in progress pictures of "Morning Coffee" measuring 20x24 inches. Not quite finished with the piece yet, but will be shortly. It is going to be the promotional piece for my up coming show at Pandemonium on July 11th.
After sketching out a few small thumb nail pics on paper I took the sketch to the panel. I first drew in some compositional lines to divide the panel into 1/3, 1/4 and 1/5 lines to get a good idea of where I wanted to place everything. I then paint sketched the scene with acrylic drawing ink and gesso.
Next comes the base colors. Added some color and worked with the values and warm and cool colors.
Then comes more color and pallet knife. Nothing like adding a bit of texture to a piece to really make it come alive.
Detail, flow and color corrections. Now its down to the nitty gritty. All fun and games are out and it time to make sure everything is flowing and working well with the painting over all. Here is where the hours of studying really comes in. Not that its not necessary from the beginning. This is where it really starts to show.
Still need to do a bit more detail, a few slight gazes and "Morning Coffee" will be done. Its going to look amazing once its done!
